Vinegar is very economical and is recommended for your laundry and your washing machine. Here’s how to use it

What kind of vinegar to use in the washing machine?

There are different kinds of vinegar, but for your laundry, you use natural vinegar. This is both respectful of your clothes and the environment.

  1. As a fabric softener

Vinegar  removes limescale from water , making it softer and softening your clothes as well. The amount of vinegar needed depends on the scale present in your water. If you have rather soft water, a small amount will suffice (one tablespoon). For hard water, use a cup of vinegar. It acts as a fabric softener substitute, pour the vinegar into the compartment dedicated to this product. It is important to know that vinegar replaces fabric softener, but not detergent. Always use a mild detergent in combination with vinegar.

  1. To protect the colors

Fading black clothes  or your favorite white blouse that isn’t as white as it was when you bought it can hurt you. Adding vinegar to your laundry will allow the colors to stay on longer, so your clothes will be less prone to fading. If you bought new, brightly colored clothes, you can also soak them overnight in cold water to which you have added vinegar.

  1. To remove stains

Not only does vinegar soften your clothes , but it is also a good natural stain remover. Think coffee or tea stains, blood stains or deodorant stains, for example. It’s very simple: take three parts vinegar and one part water and mix everything together. Let the clothes soak overnight, then wash them as usual.

  1. To reduce odors

Do you have a bottle with an empty sprayer? Fill it with vinegar. It’s the perfect way to get rid of bad odors from your clothes. For example, do you have a bad smell in your armpits? Spray a little vinegar on the stains on your shirt and let it sit for ten minutes before putting it in the washing machine.

  1. To prevent skin irritation

The vinegar in your washing machine helps remove soap scum. It’s often the residue left in your clothes that can irritate your skin. So a cup of vinegar in your fabric softener will not only make your clothes soft, but also clean and non-irritating.

  1. To keep your washing machine clean

Dirt and soap can build up in your washing machine. The best thing to do is to run an empty machine with two cups of vinegar every two months. This will dissolve the dirt and soap scum in your machine. You will no longer smell bad odors and you will be able to clean your clothes much more easily.
