Good food storage is key to a healthy and safe diet. Remember that homemade foods have a best-before date and shelf life is very important to avoid food poisoning. Containers, on the other hand, make our lives easier, because it is possible to store ready meals that we do not eat immediately in the refrigerator or use them for transport outside the home, to work, university or school.

Due to frequent use and poor cleaning, plastic containers tend to take on a bad smell and greasy texture. Is it possible to clean them and remove all the grease? Yes! It is important to know which products you should use for this task.

To degrease Tupperware and plastic containers, we have three homemade solutions:

1. Dish soap + hot water

This method is the simplest of the three. To clean Tupperware and plastic containers regularly, simply fill them with warm or boiling water and add some dish soap. Let them soak for 2 to 5 minutes, then wipe them with a sponge and rinse the bowl with hot water only. If the container is very dirty, smelly, and dirty due to the storage of certain foods, such as: If you have discolored foods such as tomato sauces that do not go away, follow the following two precautions.

2. White vinegar + hot water

Pour 1/2 cup hot water and 1/2 cup white vinegar into the bowl. Rub the sponge over the entire surface of the container and let it sit for about 10 minutes. White vinegar is one of the best natural degreasers out there. In addition to degreasing, it is also ideal for eliminating odors of any kind, after this time clean with soap and water. You will immediately notice how all the accumulated fat is gone.

3. Baking soda + white vinegar + warm water

The third trick is very effective for removing sauce stains (tomatoes, food coloring) that stick to plastic. How do you prepare it? All you have to do is soak a sponge in white vinegar, sprinkle the inside of the container with baking soda, and rub the entire inner surface in vigorous motions.

Once this is done, it is very important to use some dish soap and warm water and dry it with a cloth after rinsing. Hot water helps remove traces of grease and dirt.

With these three homemade tricks, we guarantee that your plastic packaging will look the same as it did on the first day. Finally, let them air dry or dry them with a tea towel before storing them. Keep in mind that storage, along with water residues, will cause them to absorb moisture and therefore develop a bad odor.
