A pistachio at home? Possible and easy to get, of course, with step-by-step instructions on how to germinate and grow them in pots.

This edible seed has many reasons to plant it at home. For example, it protects vision thanks to its high content of antioxidants, especially lutein and zeaxanthin. A study by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of Spain shows that these substances are essential for eye health. In addition, 28 grams of pistachios (about 49 pieces) provide 159 calories and vitamin B6, which contributes to the formation of hemoglobin, a molecule that carries oxygen to red blood cells, fiber, and protein.

Potted pistachios: If you grow them this way, you can germinate them in two easy steps

Pistachios in a pot

Step 1: You’ll need a handful of pistachios. It is very important that they are not toasted! First, you need to remove the hard shell and add the pistachios to a glass of water. It is necessary to leave them in a dark place overnight to rehydrate.

Step 2: When you’re done, place a dry napkin on a plate or bowl and add the pistachios. Cover them with paper, it should be damp. Leave it like this for four to ten days until they germinate. It is important to keep them moist. When you see that they are dry, add some water.

Step 3: To plant your pistachios, you’ll need a pot that’s deep enough for the roots to grow properly. You can also reuse a plastic bottle by simply cutting off the lid.

Step 4: Fill your pot with soil and substrate and with the help of a knife or your fingers, drill several holes and place the sprouted pistachios.
