We’re talking about oats, but let’s find out how to make a powerful fertilizer out of this ingredient!

Orchids

Light and ambient humidity for orchids.

Growing orchids luxuriantly also depends on a few aspects that need to be considered in their cultivation. For example, they need light, so it is essential that the exhibition environment is very bright.

In fact, very low light causes flowers to die quickly. Therefore, it is absolutely necessary to avoid leaving orchids in the sun, but preferably keep them on a windowsill facing north or with a curtain that can filter the sun’s rays.

In the summer season, the ideal place to display them is the balcony or garden, as long as they are placed in a cool or shady corner. It is also necessary that the chosen place is humid, since naturally orchids are used to living in environments where it rains even many times during the day.

To ensure that they have the right humidity, it is advisable to place them in a large saucer immersed in water and steam the foliage every day.

How to Water Orchids

The best method for watering orchids is to touch the substrate with your hands every 3-5 days: if it is dry, it is the right time to water.

The best time to water orchids is in the morning. After watering thoroughly, wait 15 minutes to empty the saucer and remove any water that has not been absorbed.

You can also tell if it’s time to water your plants by looking at the color of the roots that emerge on the surface. If the color is silvery gray it means that water is needed, while you do not have to water if they are turgid and green.

How to Make Fertilizer

For orchids that bloom year-round, use a natural fertilizer. A perfect ingredient is oatmeal, here we explain how to prepare this fertilizer with incredible effects:

  • Take 1 tablespoon of oatmeal;
  • Heat 300 grams of water;
  • Put the oats in the water and leave the mixture on for 1 night.

After the time, put the mixture in a blender and blend until you get a whitish solution and then filter with a sieve. After removing the oat residue, add more water to the solution keeping in mind the 1:2 ratio. At this point, pour some fertilizer into a spray bottle and you can start watering your orchids with this natural product.

Water the orchids with oat fertilizer.

To water orchids with this excellent oat fertilizer you must spray on the leaves, both on the top and bottom, on the ground and carefully, so that it absorbs all the nutrients. However, avoid spraying the fertilizer on the flowers because if they get wet they can rot quickly.

Spray the fertilizer on the roots so that they branch out and thus achieve a more abundant flower production. For best results, spray the fertilizer on the plants when you need to water them, when you place them in a saucer filled with water.

When you are finished, leave the fertilizer on for a while and then remove the plants from the saucer, the excess water will have remained at the bottom. You can also directly add a tablespoon of fertilizer to the plants and make them absorb all the nutrients from oatmeal, which contains protein, unsaturated fats, fiber, and complex carbohydrates.

In addition, the starch contained in oats promotes the development of beneficial root microflora. For lush plants, fertilize every 2 weeks and you’ll get beautiful orchids all year round.
