Getting rid of dog urine smell can be a real hassle. If you don’t clean it properly, the urine smell that remains will cause your pet to prefer that spot the next time he urinates.

Dog urine is rich in ammonia, when the water contained in the urine evaporates, the concentration of ammonia is higher and it generates toxic gases, which can cause health problems.

Whether on the carpet, on the parquet or in a corner of the kitchen, it must be cleaned immediately.

1- If you don’t clean right away

It may happen that you discover the smell the moment you get home.

Keep in mind that the longer urine is in contact with a carpet, the more difficult (but not impossible) it will be to clean it, especially if it is a carpet.

Over time, surfaces can absorb urine, which can affect your health. Never leave urine for a long time.

2- Use dishwasher detergent

If you use a detergent, the ammonia smell will most likely disappear, otherwise a sticky gel will remain on the surface, which will eventually become impregnated with dust and dirt.

3- Use products that contain bleach or ammonia.

Bleach and ammonia are not recommended because dog urine also contains ammonia.

Bleach, on the other hand, is an ammonia-based detergent. It is not used to clean but to disinfect. If you use one of these products, your dog will be encouraged to urinate even more.

What should you do?

Here are some tips that will make the stain and odor go away.

Enzymatic cleaners are products that contain a neutral pH and help dissolve various substances. They do not contain toxic ingredients.

Once the stain is removed, you can use a home remedy to make the smell go away.

Pour a little water on the stain, then rub half a lemon on it. If you prefer, you can squeeze the lemon and pour it on the stain. The acid in the lemon will finish removing the urine stain and the fruity smell will give your home a pleasant aroma.
