First tip: the perfect trap for fruit flies

This trap is one of the most popular methods for getting rid of these little black bugs.

You will need:

  • Sliced fruit (or even just the peel), such as apples or mixed fruit
  • A bowl
  • cling film

For this to work effectively, put the fruit slices in a bowl and carefully cover it with cling film. Then prick the film in several places with a toothpick to make small holes, in order to trap the flies inside. They will go in, but will not be able to come out. And voila !

Second tip: the powerful duo of basil and mint

Few people know that fruit flies can’t stand the smell of basil,  lavender and mint. While humans love their intoxicating scent, flies tend to shy away from them. Now is the time to take advantage of it! Place all these aromatic herbs on window sills or simply spray their fragrance in the kitchen and other rooms of the house. You will quickly find that these unwanted guests will go elsewhere.

If you wish, you can also light scented candles with these aromas. However, it is better not to leave your fruit uncovered in the kitchen: no matter how repulsive the smell, the temptation is sometimes too great for these flies. Especially since at some point, the smells end up dissipating.
