It often happens that it looks as if old orchids have to be thrown away. Don’t do this, they can be easily recovered.

Orchids, which are loved by many gardening enthusiasts, often prove difficult to grow. In fact, it is not uncommon to come across a sad sight: an orchid that seems to be completely dry and desperate. The temptation to throw away old orchids and replace them with new plants can be great, but before making hasty decisions, it’s important to know that orchids can be restored and regain their original beauty. Let’s look at how to bring orchids back to life in a simple way.
Never throw away old orchids
Regardless of their species, orchids have specific needs that need to be understood in order to properly care for them. These are plants that in nature are used to clinging to other plants or surfaces and absorbing nutrients and water from the surrounding air and organic matter. These plants prefer tropical climates and thrive in bright locations but without direct sunlight.
However, it may happen that you have an orchid that is so dry that it looks dead, but you should never just leave it alone. There are procedures that can be used to try to restore the plant and restore its vitality.

First of all, it is necessary to isolate the plant from other samples to avoid the risk of spreading diseases. Next, take a close look at the trunk and roots. If the trunk looks hollow and the roots are dry and brown, the plant is most likely dead, but that doesn’t mean it’s really useless.
You can try to carefully cut the stem by removing only the obviously dead parts and trying to preserve the parts that are still alive. Next, soak the roots of the plant in distilled water at room temperature for about 15-20 minutes. Distilled water helps moisturize dry roots and stimulate the recovery process. After soaking the roots, gently wrap them in peat moss, which retains moisture and creates an ideal environment for root growth. Ideally, you should place everything in a glass vase to let light through and protect the plant. Then place the plant in a bright place but out of direct sunlight and wait.
How to proceed after caring for the trunk
It is important to remember that restoring orchids takes time, patience and constant care. Check the plant regularly to make sure the moss is always moist and add distilled water if needed. At the same time, care should be taken not to overwater them, as orchid roots can rot if left in standing water for too long.

As the weeks go by, the first signs of life should appear, new roots should develop, and possibly even a bud on the stem. These are positive signs of recovery. At this stage, it is necessary to follow the care described above in order to experience a real rebirth of the orchid in a short time.
Retrieving a dead-looking orchid can be very rewarding, especially if you have an emotional connection to the plant. Although these plants are fragile, they can surprise with their incredible ability to regenerate if placed in the right conditions.
