Newspaper to remove bad odors
Foods kept in the refrigerator can lead to bad smells, especially when left uncovered. If baking soda is known for its deodorizing action, newspaper is also effective in absorbing bad odors. To do this, simply crumple your newspaper and moisten it slightly with a spray. Then place it on a plate, in the refrigerator, and let it act for 10 hours, or even 24 hours, if odors still persist.

Another tip is to wrap foods that give off bad odors in newspaper before placing them in the fridge. This is particularly the case with fresh fish, or certain vegetables.
Newspaper for storing food
Some foods can rot quickly when placed in the refrigerator. To avoid this inconvenience, wrap them in newspaper before storing them in the refrigerator. Try this trick with mushrooms that can’t stand humidity, or with green beans. Note that newspaper could also prevent sprouting of potatoes. Indeed, this tuber germinates in the presence of heat, light or humidity. This natural phenomenon mainly concerns organic potatoes, which have not undergone any treatment. Be careful, if your potatoes have already sprouted, remove the germs and the parts that have turned green, and rinse your tubers before cooking them. However, it is best to store your potatoes in a cool, dry place, away from light.
Newspaper to prevent mold
Moisture in the crisper drawer can lead to bad smells, but also mold. To prevent this, line the bottom of the crisper drawer with newspaper. It thus absorbs stagnant moisture.

What are the other uses of newsprint?
In addition to using it to get rid of bad odors in the refrigerator, newspaper has other unsuspected uses.
Newsprint to help fruit ripen faster
Newsprint is effective in ripening climacteric fruit, that is, fruit that continues to ripen even after you pick it. This is particularly the case for tomatoes, apples, plums and even avocado. For this, wrap each fruit separately in newspaper and let it sit for a day to get good results. Note that while newspaper makes apples and pears ripen faster, it is also effective in extending their shelf life. Indeed, if you have purchased these fruits in large quantities, remember to line the bottom of a crate with sheets of newspaper and place your fruits there. This will ensure their better preservation.
Tip: if your apples and pears are attacked by insects when you keep them in a fruit basket, or their skin gets damaged, consider placing them on a sheet of newspaper, leaving a little space between the fruits so that they do not touch each other. This trick will preserve the skin of your fruit and keep mosquitoes away.
Newspaper for storing wine
You can preserve a bottle of wine, even without keeping it in a cellar, simply by wrapping it in newspaper. Then place it in a room with a stable and constant temperature throughout the year.
Newspaper to degrease the barbecue grill
To remove food residue and traces of grease or burnt marks from the barbecue grills, crumple the newspaper to reduce them to balls and rub the grill while it is still warm. This will easily remove all the grease and residue that covers it.
Newspaper to prevent trash leaks
Some foods that we throw in the trash are full of water. If the garbage bag is not very tight, it can, when removing it from the garbage can to throw it away, drip and dirty the floor . To avoid this, line the bottom of the garbage bag with sheets of newspaper. These absorb the liquid that flows from your waste, in order to limit the damage.
That said, instead of throwing away your newspaper, use it to absorb bad odors or humidity in your refrigerator, or to extend the shelf life of your fruits and vegetables.
